Taking Action for a Sustainable Future at the First Vienna Climate Run

The organizers of the inaugural Vienna Climate Run—the “panSol – Climate Protection : Energy : Environment” association in cooperation with the association SOL – People for Solidarity, Ecology and Lifestyle—are ambitious in their goal to host Europe’s largest charity run for climate protection.

Within 150 minutes, participants can “collect” laps in Vienna’s Prater park to protect valuable ecosystems: For every lap completed—a distance of 1.5 km—1.5 m² of forest area around the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wilderness Area Dürrenstein-Lassingtal will be protected.

akaryon is a sponsoring partner of the Vienna Climate Run, and I will also be running for akaryon and the environment on October 11, 2025. Last week, my colleague Patrick shared insights into the preparation phase; now, I would like to take you along for part of the journey.

To ensure that the transition does not stall, we are working together to provide momentum and bring movement to climate protection!

Engagement is Particularly Important Right Now

Why I Am Participating in the Vienna Climate Run

For me, participating in the Vienna Climate Run is primarily about awareness-raising. Heat records are being broken globally every year, natural disasters are no longer rare occurrences, and current developments in climate policy show that there are challenges in aligning the need for action with actual implementation. Therefore, it is all the more important to demonstrate now that we remain committed to our environment and a sustainable future. To ensure that the transition does not stall, we are working together to provide momentum and bring movement to climate protection!

Personal Running Goal

It has been a while since I last participated in a running event, so I am very much looking forward to being part of this. I tend to be a short-distance runner and have set a goal for myself to complete at least four of the 1.5 km laps. I resumed running about a month ago following the summer break, and the Climate Run is excellent motivation!

My Essentials for the Event

I find that October is the ideal month for running. It will likely be pleasantly cool, and a bit of rain does not bother me while running—on the contrary, I prefer running in the spring and fall before it gets too hot or too cold. I always bring food—usually a bar—and a drink for afterward, as well as a light jacket in case it rains.

Feel free to read the blog posts from other runners on our team: in addition to Patrick Riedler, Vanessa Bierbacher also shares stories about her preparations.
