Circularity Optimizer impresses experts at global conference

On March 10, 2026, Peter Gruber from AEE INTEC presented the Circularity Optimizer at the International Conference on Digital Technologies in Logistics and Circular Economy (ICDTLCE 26) in Beijing – virtually, but with real impact.

Around 50 participants from an international expert audience followed the presentation titled “Smart Digital Integration and Multi-Criteria Impact Assessment for Circular Economy Scenarios in Urban Development.” The response clearly showed that the topic strikes a chord.

"Circular transition fails without a shared view on system impacts"

Three components – one goal: A technology mix for greater circularity

The Circularity Optimizer combines three key elements:

  1. 3D-based scenario development using URBAN MENUS, developed by architect Laura P. Spinadel and akaryon
  2. A structured technology catalogue, developed by AEE INTEC and akaryon
  3. An ESG-oriented multi-criteria assessment integrated via akaryon’s ESG-Cockpit

Using the example of the Gleisdorf wastewater treatment plant, scenarios ranging from photovoltaic systems and biogas CHP to phosphorus recovery were modelled and comparatively evaluated. This case study sparked one of the liveliest discussions among participants.

One question from the audience referred to wastewater treatment plants in the brewery industry – a clear sign of how practical and transferrable the approach is.

Circular economy does not fail because of missing technologies but because of the lack of a shared view on system impacts.

Fact-based decision support for circular economy in demand

The central message of the presentation remains highly relevant: Circular economy does not fail because of missing technologies but because of the lack of a shared view on system impacts. This is exactly where the Circularity Optimizer comes in – offering a tool that makes ecological, technical, economic, and social impacts visible and comparable.

We are pleased about the international interest and lively discussions, which confirm that fact-based decision support in the circular economy is increasingly needed.
