akaryon’s ESG portal technology enables new VSME functionality in the WKO KlimaPortal

The ESG-Portal is part of the ESG-Cockpit family. This technology is designed for sustainability management and reporting by large numbers of users with similar requirements. It is particularly useful for applications such as stakeholder surveys.

An important stakeholder group in the Austrian economy are the members of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO). To support these businesses, WKO provides the KlimaPortal developed by akaryon. Until now, WKO members have been able to use the portal to create carbon footprints and calculate a climate indicator.

On behalf of WKO, akaryon has now developed an extension that allows users to create VSME Basic Reports directly within the WKO KlimaPortal. This new functionality is made possible by the ESG Portal technology mentioned above.

Fine details in the development process shape the user experience

The functional core of the enhanced WKO Climate Portal was clear from the outset: organising data collection, providing ESG-related functions, and generating ESG evaluations. The implementation of these core features was completed quickly.

As is often the case, the real challenge lay in the detailed work—balancing ease of use with advanced functionality. Key aspects included clear language at every interaction point, helpful information texts, maximizing value for users, user experience (UX), accessibility, and branding. The WKo KlimaPortal now fully reflects the new Austrian Federal Economic Chamber web design.
