How energy communities can find financing for their projects
How can your energy community move forward? You may have already submitted an application as part of the European Energy Communities Facility (ENERCOM) Calls, your business plan is (almost) complete, and you are looking for capital to implement your projects?
You can find financing opportunities in the specialised funding opportunities database of the European Energy Communities Facility. The database, technically implemented by akaryon, went online in June 2026. The background: many energy communities face the challenge of securing financing for their projects after the planning phase. The database provides a direct response to this need.
Overview of funding opportunities – local and EU-wide
The ENERCOM funding opportunities database provides an overview of EU-wide, national and, in some cases, regional or local funding opportunities for energy communities, including grants and loan programmes.
Targeted searches with filters in the ENERCOM funding opportunities database
Combinable filters make it easier to narrow down search results according to specific needs:
- Eligible applicants: energy communities; cooperatives; municipalities; SMEs; non-profit organisations; informal groups of citizens
- Regional focus: EU-wide or international; national
- Eligible activities / cost categories: investments (CAPEX); operational costs (OPEX); preparatory activities; personnel costs
- Eligible technologies: aquathermal energy; batteries / energy storage; district heating; electric vehicles / mobility; energy efficiency (excluding renovation); geothermal energy; heat pumps; renovation / refurbishment; solar energy; solar thermal energy; wind energy
What information does a database entry contain?
For each entry, both short and detailed versions are available. In addition to the information selectable through filters, the entries provide details such as the funding authority, the type of funding, the application deadline, further financial conditions (e.g. funding amount, co-financing requirements) and, where available, information on the application process.
Community power: help add missing funding opportunities!
The database is updated every six months. Anyone aware of a funding opportunity that is still missing from the database can request its inclusion via a dedicated form.
Part of a comprehensive support offer by the ENERCOM Facility
The ENERCOM funding opportunities database is open to all energy communities and aims to facilitate access to suitable financing opportunities across Europe.
It is one of several support measures through which the ENERCOM Facility assists energy communities on their journey from planning to implementation. These include lump sum grants for developing business plans, an open online capacity-building programme to strengthen financial skills, as well as webinars that help funded communities present their projects to potential financing partners.
